Dear Neil & Heather, We became acquainted with both your parents through our membership at St. Andrew, and thoroughly enjoyed our relationship! Your Dad and I (Mary) served on the call committee that brought Pastor Hougen to St. A., and your mom and I had such nice visits (between the two Marys, you know!). I loved it when she said "our" name with that delightful Scottish burr, giving the "r" a lot of personality. After Pastor Bob left, your Dad and I worked on several activities for our church, and I'd gently remind him of timelines we'd set and dates we were working with. It could have been a little annoying, but he always smiled and said he needed those reminders and was glad I kept track of dates and times. We treasure those relationships and were truly enriched by these good people in our lives. With our condolences and warmest regards, Mary & Marv

I have great memories of Dave and the earlier years of Shive-Hattery. In 1966 I was a student and part time employee of S-H. Don Hattery introduced me to this experienced engineer who was joining the firm and asked me to show him around. He was very serious, had many questions and I learned a lot from him. In ‘67 I graduated and left the state. Six years later I came back to the Iowa City office and this serious CR engineer returned the favor, and brought me up to speed. Dave made a significant impact on engineering in Iowa, Cedar Rapids infrastructure, and the outstanding firm founded by Jim Shive and Don Hattery. Thank you, Dave…

Dave was a friend, a brother Mason, and a fellow Rotarian. He was also a close neighbor for many years. I join the family in celebrating his life. He made a difference in so many ways. As one who knew the old Cedar Rapids, I appreciate all his work in creating the Cedar Rapids we now enjoy. We are all better because he was here. William C. Jacobson
