New Encounters
A Positive Approach to Widowhood
New Encounters was founded in 1978 with the support of Cedar Memorial and continues today in providing a different kind of support group for the widows of the Cedar Rapids and Marion area.
From the very founding, New Encounters was not offered as a therapy group but rather the companionship of other widows.
What does New Encounters do?
New Encounters offers a special night out once a month and the gatherings include dinner and entertainment. However, the most important thing New Encounters provides is the fellowship offered to provide new friendships in widowhood.
When does New Encounters gather?
New Encounters meets the 3rd Sunday afternoon in the months of March, September, October, November, and December. We meet on the 3rd Tuesday evening during the months of April, May, June, July, and August. They do not have meetings in January or February. Occasionally, due to holidays, some meeting days are changed.
Why should I join New Encounters?
Through your participation in our group and the mission it serves, both you and New Encounters grows stronger. The group is to help you find new friendships, new activities and new hopes by meeting with the many women in our area that share with you the common bond of widowhood. New Encounters feels that they need your friendship and hope that you will accept theirs.
