Sandie and I both taught at Starry School in Marion in the 80’s. I was the phys ed teacher. Our paths crossed again in Cedar Falls watching her granddaughter Eve playing in a club volleyball tournament. I became good friends with Sandie’s daughter Kristi before realizing Sandi was her mom. We enjoyed reconnecting through volleyball.

My acquaintance with Sandi was short but at the time she opened her heart to me and I felt very privileged in the confidence she placed in me. What came out in our discussions was that she was a very special person who loved her family and lived a very good life. It was a special pleasure for me to me to have met her.

Dear Family, my deepest sympathies go out to you at this time. Sandie was such a neat person and a good friend to all of us who were lucky to know her. Whether she was your neighbor, your teacher, or your bridge partner, she was patient and helpful, even if your bridge skills were less than stellar like mine. I admired her ability to deal with life’s ups and downs. I rejoiced with your many accomplishments. She was so proud of you. A special moment was attending the 80th birthday party you had for her. Although I feel sad to have lost a special friend, I am happy that I have many good memories of her. Your suggestion of giving to a charity of our choice was a great way to honor her life. Please know I’m thinking of you and share your grief.
