Mark was born on July 7, 1932, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Donavon) Leonard.  In 1950, He graduated from Coggon High School.  After graduation he proudly served in the United States Army, during the Korean conflict.  Mark married the love of his life, Irma Oltmann on January 22, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Church in Anamosa, Iowa. He was a dairy farmer until his retirement in 1993.  Mark continued farming corn and beans, with his favored Allis Chalmers tractors.  He and Irma loved their farm, and for 60 plus years called it home.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Irma Leonard; two daughters, Diane Leonard-Leibold; and Janine (Bob) Bossard both of Monticello, ten grandchildren, Shawna (Dan) Beitz, Hans (Danielle) Leonard, Heidi (Cody) Benson, Dustin (Samantha) Lumpa, Jasmine (Andy) Norman, Isaac (Tara) Leonard, Joshua Leibold, Jordan (Jane) Leonard, Hailee Bossard and Riley Bossard; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan and Tyler Beitz, Cody and Aymslee Norman, Mila and Asher Lumpa, Noah and Emersyn Leonard; a brother, Robert (Lois) Leonard, and many loving nieces, nephews, his Colorado family, extended family members, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John, beloved son, Michael Leonard, and a nephew, Shawn Leonard.

Mark enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, farming, fishing, hunting, and family gatherings at the farm. Which always included his favorites: Pepsi, Oreos, and Snickers.  Mark’s greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  His legacy of love, generosity, kindness, and humor will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His smile and blue eyes were infectious.  Mark’s endless compassion drove him to help others unconditionally.  Most importantly, nothing compared to the love Mark had for his family, his faith in God, and his farm.  He will be greatly missed!

A special thank you to Above and Beyond Hospice for their gentle care and compassion given to Mark.
