Neil was born on September 27th, 1938, in Gilbertville, Iowa, the son of Martin and Hazel (Klein) Weyland. He attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School with the class of 56. Neil enlisted in the Army on August 28th, 1956, and was stationed in Italy for a good part of his service; enjoying the country and the people as well.

Neil returned home in June of 1959, he worked various jobs before accepting a finance job that led him to Ottumwa, Iowa. It was during this time he was introduced to the beautiful Beverly Wood. They were married on September 16th, 1961, and within a few short years had their first 3 children, Terri, Kathy, and Alan. In 1965 the family moved to Cedar Rapids and welcomed their last two children Rebecca and Carmen.

Neil was an excellent provider and worked at times two jobs along with Beverly to make a good life for his family. Neil held a variety of jobs in his lifetime including time spent with Peoples Finance, McGrath Pontiac, Armstrong’s, Executive Realty, Allen Motor Company and Quality Pest Control; he was recently asked which one was his favorite; his reply was Armstrong’s Men’s Wear  “because he got to dress up every day”. Neil’s pride and joy however would come in 1986 when he opened “Kathy’s Home Maid Pies”, still in operation today as Kathy’s Pies.

Neil was an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport immensely, having served on the Cedar Rapids City Amateur Committee in the 80’s and the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Ryder Cup Competition. His fondest memories are of Mike Hall’s Wednesday Afternoon Games at St. Andrews where many friendships were forged. He was a past member of the Jaycees, Elk’s Lodge, and Ducks Unlimited. Neil enjoyed Elk hunting and trips to Montana and Idaho with his friends; junkets to Las Vegas with family and later short trips with the kids to Riverside Casino.

Neil is survived by his five children, Terri (Greg) Henecke, Kathy (Bill) McCauley, Al (Janice) Weyland of Toddville, Becca (Tracy) English and Carmen (Brett) McKee. Neil is survived by two sisters; Beth Swyers of Cedar Rapids and Beverly Culbert of Waterloo; a brother David (Cindy) Weyland of Gilbertville and best friend Scott Carnes. Neil is also a grandfather to Hillary Lippincott, Blake Anderson, Chloe Dunn, Spencer Weyland, Gabby Weyland, Paul J. Potts, Aiden English and great grandfather to Charlie & Henry Lippincott and Keisen Derby-Potts. Neil is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wants to extend a special thank you to Neil’s dear friend and companion, Nancy McCann. Nancy’s loving presence brought joy and comfort to Neil in his final days.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse of 60 years, Beverly; his brother, Gary Weyland and sister Carolyn Jussely; two sisters-in-law, Donna Weyland and Roberta Pedrick; four  brothers-in-law, Joe Jussely, John Culbert, Hugh Pedrick and Tom Swyers; two nephews, Michael Martin Weyland and Joseph Jussely; two  nieces, Sue Nagle and Lisa Marie Clubb.
