Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Tom was born December 5, 1942, at Centerville, IA, the son of Karl and Rita (Mullenix) Brunow. Tom graduated from Centerville High School in 1961 and in 1964 was united in marriage to Eileen Mulvehill at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Masonville, IA.
Tom was employed as a real estate appraiser and served in the Linn County Assessor’s office from 1977 through December 2006 serving as the Linn County Assessor for over 20 years. Following retirement, Tom enjoyed being a bus driver for the Cedar Rapids Parochial schools but always reminded us that the best job he ever had was retirement! He served as the Vice President of the I.P.E.R.S. Improvement, was a past member of the Regis-LaSalle School and the Xavier School Boards and served as president of the St. Matthew School Board. He was awarded the William Thinnes “Friend of Catholic Education” Award. Faith and family were his most cherished gifts, he was extremely proud of all of his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his three children, Bryan (Angie) Brunow of Cedar Rapids, Damon (Susan) Brunow of St. Peter, MN and Barbara (David) Sullivan of Cedar Rapids; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister-in laws Barbara (James) Brunow of CA, Marie (Jim) Broghammer of Manchester, and brother-in-law Donald (Betty) Mulvehill of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen, parents Karl and Rita Brunow, siblings James Brunow of CA and Geraldine Dickerson of Centerville, sisters-in-law Peggy Mulvehill of Cedar Rapids, Catherine Quint of Ryan and brothers-in-law James Broghammer of Manchester and Vernon Quint of Ryan.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their kindness and care.
