David Svoboda, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the age of 85, at home, surrounded by his family.
In accordance with David’s wishes, a private graveside service was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Community Savings Bank in Robins, Iowa.
Dave was born on September 11, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Kepler) Svoboda. On August 19, 1961, he married the love of his life, Delores “Dee.” Their 65-year journey together was a testament to enduring love.
Dave graduated in 1960 from Alburnett High School. That same year he began his career with the Iowa Highway Commission. In the late 1960s he was promoted to the Maintenance Department as an Operations Assistant. He continued his education through Iowa State University and was later promoted to District Maintenance Manager of District 6, a position he held until his retirement in 2002.
Dave was an adventurer at heart. He loved traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, and most of all his family. Many weekends were spent at their cabin along the Mississippi River.
Left to cherish Dave’s memory are his wife, Dee; his son, Micheal (Dana) Svoboda; his daughter, Sherry (Phil) Carolan; grandchildren Zach (Amanda) Svoboda, Stephanie (Jake) Mizell, Jourdan (Colin) Winterhof, Marcus (Gloria) Carolan, Tyler (Hanna) Carolan, Mia, Noelle and Luca Sinno; great-grandchildren Malachi, Uriah, Zion, and Titus Svoboda; Orianna and George Mizell; Hobbes and Murray Winterhof; and Fletcher and Andie Carolan; his sister, Theresa (Wayne) Alberts; sister-in-law Shelly Svoboda; brother-in-law Dwayne Callahan.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws; his granddaughter Britney Carolan; his brothers Tom Jr., John, and Steve Svoboda; and sisters-in-law Darlene Callahan, Betty Svoboda, and Diane Svoboda.
