Memorial
Thomas A. Carson, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on July 19, 2026, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Juanna “Jo” M. Carson, 93, also of Cedar Rapids, passed away in 2023, on June 30. A memorial service for Tom and Jo will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A private committal will take place at a later date.
Tom was born on June 12, 1932, to Ben and Lois (Rattenberry) Carson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Franklin High School. He worked for Rockwell Collins and obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Coe College. After retirement, Collins called him back to do quality control for them. He had the opportunity to travel all over the country in this position and worked for three more years in quality control.
In his younger years, Tom served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He was also a Boy Scout’s Scout Master for the local Troup 8.
Jo was born on September 12, 1929, to Benjamin and Mary (Shindelbeck) Worley in Celina, Ohio. She worked at Sears in the financial department for many years.
In May of 1984, Tom and Jo were married. They lived in Texas for some time. Later, they moved to Ohio to be closer with Jo’s family.
In more recent years, Tom moved back to Cedar Rapids, with Jo. Jo passed away on June 30, 2023, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.
Tom is survived by his children, Kim Caldwell, of West Des Moines, IA, and Scott Carson (Marie Blackburn) of Cedar Rapids, IA; his grandchildren, Alexies Janecek, Shelbie (Robert) Bennett, Heylie Caldwell (Tyler Neff), and Malorie Caldwell; his great-grandchildren, Asher, Oliver, and Heyden; his brother, Richard Carson; and his nephews, Mark Carson and Brian Carson.
Jo is survived by her children, Michael (Mary Ellen) Donovan of Bloomington, IN, Kathy (David) Mowrey of Sylva, NC, and Maureen (Jose) Ibanez of San Antonio, TX; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
