Jerold “Jerry” Thomas Gibney, 72, of Palo, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Hiawatha Care Center.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A private family burial will be held at the Palo Cemetery at a later date.
Jerry was born on May 12, 1954, to Lauren and Maxine (McVay) Gibney. He was a lifelong resident of Palo. After graduating from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1972, Jerry joined his parent’s business, Tri County Dairy. Shortly after the sale of the Dairy, Jerry started a tire business, J&M Enterprises, which he operated with his son Aaron, up until the time of his death.
Jerry is survived by his former wife, Lisa Gibney Wright, and their two sons, Jimmy Gibney and Aaron (Amanda Freeman) Gibney; sister Jackie (Danny) Gardemann, niece Rhonda (Brad) Wilson, nephew Chad (Liz) Gardemann, great-nieces and nephews: Kendall and Kylie Murr, Cam and Caitlin Wilson, Landry and Bennett Gardemann; and special friend Marlene Schneider.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and several beloved pets.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to Palo Methodist Church and Camp Courageous.
