Gary James Kramer, 90, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Gary was born on April 10, 1936, in Walford, Iowa, the son of William and Irma (Stangler) Kramer. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Iowa for one year. Gary was united in marriage to Rai Ann Martin on November 25, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for more than 30 years.

He traveled throughout Europe and enjoyed traveling by Amtrak around the United States. He and Rai Ann wintered in Arizona for more than 25 years. Gary was an avid Chicago Cubs and Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Gary was very close to his grandparents, Frank and Anna Stangler. They were the original owners and founders of the historic DanceMor Ballroom in Swisher, Iowa, which they built and operated from 1929 to 1974.

Survivors include his daughter, Anne Kramer (Gunther) of Denver, Colorado; sons, Paul (Domingo) Kramer of Palm Springs, California, and Dan (Erica) Kramer of Atkins, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lexie, Ben, Gabriel (Piper), and Nathan (Jess); two nieces, Ria Ghorbati and Leanne Gross; and a nephew, Merritt Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Raimondi “Rai Ann” Ann Kramer; his daughter, Molly Sue; and his grandparents.

The family would like to express their gratitude to The Meth-Wick Community and Suncrest Hospice for their kindness and excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gary’s honor may be directed to the Allsop Family Humane Society (formerly the Cedar Valley Humane Society): https://www.allsophumane.org/donate
