JoAnn Elizabeth Schweinefus, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Indianola, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 9:00-11:00 AM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Hillside Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa, that afternoon.
JoAnn was born on November 4, 1934, in McGregor, Iowa, to Verni and Amanda Schultz. She graduated from Ossian High School and received her RN degree in nursing from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids in 1955. JoAnn married Conley Schweinefus in Ossian on September 25, 1955. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for a time, but most enjoyed working at doctor’s offices in Cedar Rapids and Decorah, Iowa. She retired from nursing in 1996.
JoAnn was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church since 1956. She was a star six on six basketball player for Ossian High School and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, enjoying family time most of all.
She is survived by her daughter, Connee Jo (Eric) Larsen; grandson Christopher (Erin) Larsen; great-grandchildren, Karter and Sawyer Larsen, all of Indianola, Iowa; her stepbrother, Ed (Jean) Hupfer of Clinton, Iowa; her brothers and sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Conley Schweinefus, and her parents.
