Paul Lamont Thompson was born on February 19, 1966, and passed away on October 13, 2026, at the age of 60. Paul was born in Somers Point, N.J., to Dr. Jerry E. Thompson, Sr. and Vera Drozd Thompson.
After graduating from Marion High School, Paul began working at General Mills in 1991, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 2021. While working at the factory, he utilized his love of computers and built a couple for General Mills.
Paul is survived by his 3 children, Jenny Townsend (Tristan), and Nina and Nathan Thompson; his grandchildren Simone, Davonte, Bennett, and Aniyah. Sister, Lisa Thompson and his niece, Alexis Guess.
Paul Thompson was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sylvester and Dorothy Thompson; Parents Jerry and Vera Thompson; Brother-in-law Lester Guess; Cousin Sharif Thompson and his paternal uncles.
Paul enjoyed playing computer games, watching sports, cowboy movies, fishing, mining bitcoins, and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul showcased his love of food by cooking recipes from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook and grilling ribs. Paul always reminisced on his time spent in New Jersey and loved being near the ocean. After retirement, Paul looked forward to his monthly gatherings with his fellow General Mills employees.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the services at the Cedar Terrace Community.
