Dwayne Claybon Lofton, 91, of Hiawatha, Iowa, transitioned on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Homegoing Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Ray Coleman Jr. officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dwayne was born on June 13, 1934, in Miner, Mississippi, the son of Willie and Lizzie (Williams) Lofton. He later moved to Chicago and in 1963, he met and married Mary Holmes. He worked on the railroad as a welder, painter, and pipe fitter. Then he began a long career in housekeeping at both Loyola University Medical Center, and ITT. In 2015, Dwayne relocated to Cedar Rapids to be closer to his family. He accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Dwayne enjoyed staying active and was known for going to the gym every day except Sunday. He had a warm, friendly personality and never met a stranger, always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone he encountered.

He is survived by his children, Carolyn Thigpen, Cynthia Mwamba, Pamela (Pete) Vasquez, Hattie Holmes, and Clara Lofton; his grandchildren, Renee Lofton, Nona Cannon, De’Andre Williams, Demetrius Rogers, Ebony Lofton, and Myles Cartman; his siblings, William Lofton, Tommie Lofton, Nancy Griffin, Will Richardson, Jewel Young, Jackie Hickenbottom, Monore Williams, and Dorothy Jones; a uncle, Frank Randle; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and eleven brothers.
