Richard and I were saddened to hear of Don’s passing. Condolences to the family. We have enjoyed the pictures Jenny and Shelly have shared on Facebook. We laughed at the mention of Don and his back scratching. I can still picture him leaning up against the fireplace in the chalet. Jane and Richard.

I was saddened to learn of Don's death. In 1984 I was director of the Indian Creek Nature Center and had received a grant to build a maple syrup building. I had several bids but the most memorable was from Don Wood.
He looked at the plans and said, "Rich, I've never built a maple syrup building and will probably never again have the chance to build on. But, I want to build this one." His bid was high but I accepted it. Don and his staff did a superb job crafting this building, and especially it's complex cupola that vents steam. During construction many visitors stopped to see the work and Don graciously took time to greet them and let them know what he was building.
His work was superlative and has functioned well for nearly forty years.
Thousands will visit during the late March Maple Syrup Festival.
The building is Don's legacy. Rich Patterson
