Damon Joseph Hauptmann, 65, died unexpectedly August 31, 2024. A celebration of life visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Damon was born January 9, 1959, in Britt, Iowa to Donald and Sharlene Hauptmann. He attended St. Joseph School System in Wesley, Iowa, where he called home.
Damon is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laureen; children, Jessie Hauptmann and Ben (Marissa) Hauptmann; Papa to grandson, Carson; mother, Sharlene Hauptmann; siblings, Meredith (Marge) Hauptmann, Margaret Kenney, Sidney (Mary) Hauptmann, Garret Hauptmann, Marie (Donald) Bedford, and Eldon (Jennifer) Hauptmann; many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; stepfather, Earl Jaspersen; nephew, Joseph Kenney and great-niece, Mila Hanson.
Damon loved spending time with his best friend, Carson, coffee with his mom, and time with his special niece, Kari. He was a master welder and millwright. He made the Harrison Elementary School time capsule. He loved going to casinos with his family, metal detecting, Harley rides, cat fishing, and was a Ford guy. He was very talented. He loved helping his family with any projects they had; he could fix anything. He was a job site hero and as a child, saved his brother, Garret’s life. Damon was many things to many people; on the job he was known as “Big D”.
Damon’s motto was, “Tomorrow is a new day and only you can change it.”
