Dean Louis McDermott, 76, of Marion died Wednesday April 10, 2024, in his home with his family circled around him.  A visitation is set for Monday April 15, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by a 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Dean was born October 30, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Louis and Mable (Bradley) McDermott. He married Sharon S. Harrington on January 11, 1969, in Manchester, Iowa.  He graduated from West Dubuque High School in Epworth, Iowa, attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and earned certification at IBM Trade School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.   He worked at Collins Radio for four years.  He then was in sales with Steitzer Lincoln-Mercury, and Rapids Chevrolet. He became Used Care Sales Manager and was in Sales at Allen’s Motor Company for 24 years.  He then worked for Lithia Motors, and retired from Junge Motors in 2010.  He enjoyed playing pool, golf, Euchre, camping, boating, fishing, and family trips to Florida.

Dean also enjoyed dancing and listening to music.  He loved to dance to Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean song, earning him the nickname “Dean, Dean, the Dancing Machine”.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sharon, their daughters, Tricia (McDermott) and Larry Peddicord, their children, Reese and Shea.  Tammie (McDermott) and Eric Pospisil, and their children Andrew, Austin, Kelsey, and Kaylen of Marion, IA, his father, Louis McDermott of Dyersville, his siblings, Marie Schuster of Dyersville, Kym (Greg) Hauser of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Mary Jo) McDermott of Dubuque, Tanya (Gene) Schlicte of Dyersville; great-grandchildren Athena, Arlo, and Charli, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery McDermott, his mother, Mable McDermott, his sister, Cherry Beth, and his brother, Lanz McDermott and brother-in-law, Mark Schuster.
