Ronald Grant Meyer, 91 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ron was born on July 21, 1934, in Quincy, Illinois to Harold and Mary Meyer.  He was a devout Christian and a loving husband, father, son, grandfather and was extremely proud of recently becoming a great grandfather.

He grew up loving sports and played baseball in college where he graduated with a BA in engineering from Quincy University in 1956.  He later met and married Jan (Jeanerette) Schaefer in 1957.  He was drafted soon after and they moved to Huntsville, Alabama where he served in the US Army from 1957-1959.  This is where they began their family.  Life then took them to Niagara Falls, NY where he was employed by National Carbon Company.  That was a stepping stone towards his lifelong career working at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as an Industrial Engineer in the Service Center Division.  He performed various management positions for 37 years until he retired in 1998.  He was loved by all who worked for and with him.

Ron spent 42 wonderful years with Jan and had three children and five grandchildren.  They enjoyed traveling, going to their children’s sporting events, singing and dancing and playing bridge and pinochle with a group of friends.  After losing her to cancer in 1999, Ron was remarried to Marci (Marcine) Leu in 2001.  They enjoyed spending time snowbirding in Arizona, golfing and playing bridge together.  He also became involved in the choir at the Lutheran Church and the Rotary Club in Sun Lakes.

Ron was very involved in his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he served as the president of the congregation, was the Sunday school superintendent and the choir director for over 50 years.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Jan Meyer, Marci Meyer, his parents, Mary and Harold Meyer and his sister Jean Baldwin.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Ronald Meyer II, Marcus (Julie) Meyer; daughter, Alicia (Todd) Thorson; grandchildren, Claire (Jason) Fox, Luke Meyer, Morgan Meyer, Connor (Gunnar) Thorson and Ashley Thorson; great grandchild, Olivia Fox.

Ron will be remembered for his strong faith, musical talent, his kindness towards others, his cheerfulness and his loving, helpful spirit.  Ron will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  We will carry his love and kindness with us always.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2900 42nd Street NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52402 or  Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
