John Weld was my favorite uncle. How many times my five siblings and i rejoiced in hearing his hearty, "Hey gang!" as he came through the door. We all tried to wrestle him to the floor, but inevitably he pinned each kid with his familiar, "One, two, pinned!" After we moved from Britt, Iowa to Iowa City, Uncle John lived closer, and would sometimes have us for overnights in his Cedar Rapids home with our new Aunt Cathy, even taking us camping at times. As a teen, I would meet Jefferson HIgh School kids on occasion, who always had positive words about Mr.Weld. i was so proud. Uncle John had a wonderful zest for life. On a recent visit, he introduced friends and told us about the antics of his theater group. Such fun! In his apartment, he quizzed us about historical facts and artifacts found on his shelves. Even as senior citizens, we still had to stay sharp in his company! We'll miss this lovely man and all his positive energy. How lucky we were to have him in our lives. Bless you Aimee and Andy, and all your kids and grands. What a great legacy he left. Love, your cousin Sandy (Weld) Marz

I was fortunate to be in two classes with Mister Weld. Everyone I knew showed much respect for him. His attitude seemed to rub off on everyone, as well. I will continue to remember him!

Aimee and family, I was so sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. He was a great man and an even better teacher. I loved having him for class and I remember racing across the gym to get in line to register for his class just to make sure he would be my teacher. He was so knowledgeable about history and he made me want to go to the places he talked about. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to start class with. He will be missed by so many.

Inspirational Man and "One of the GOOD GUYS" in my life I will always be Thankful for. Excellent Wrestling coach that taught me a lot but even more important taught me leadership by Respect, Support and Friendliness. Did not have as Social Studies teacher but heard great things about. Mr Weld did support many of our JHS Class of 1973 money-raising activities as did Teacher and Class Advisor, Bob Becker. God Bless the Families of John Weld during this saddest of times in life.

John was a colleague for many years at Jefferson. He was a wonderful teacher who had a personal touch with his students. I enjoyed discussing history with John. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge. More than this, John was a good guy and a friend. He will be missed by those who lives he touched.

You were such a wonderful teacher, and a kind soul. Thank you for blessing us with your time on this earth. Sending lots of love to your family.
