Anne Gesme was a prolific writer. She understood that writing stimulates the brain as it connects the author and the reader. It reveals who and what the writer is. Anne willingly shared many lessons she learned from living this life. She knew how to tell a story.
As a member of our writing group at Cottage Grove Place, she offered these words:
"When we are gone – and we all will be someday – many will value the stories we leave behind. “As one genealogist so aptly put it, there are two things you can leave your survivors. One is roots, the other is wings. Life stories can provide both.” Anne's book and her many articles reveal a rich heritage left for those who follow.
Those of us who heard, read and valued her many contributions, thank Anne for writing her stories. We got to know her well. Her Norwegian heritage, her family orientation, and her insightful mind made her life legendary. She made a connection with many generations as she related how we have lived as compared to how we now live.
She was my friend who connected with me in many ways. Some less informed people refer to Norwegians as God's frozen people. I would modify that to mean God's thoughtful people. She had a deep and abiding love for all those in her tribe. We are better because she was here.
For those in her writing group, we keep writing as we remember her.
