Lawrence (Larry) LeRoy Gordin was born September 16, 1932, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Dale and Elizabeth (Van Veen) Gordin. Larry, 93, was a resident of Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, KY. Formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, he passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Veterans Center. 

During the Korean Conflict Larry served as Seaman 1st Class aboard the USS Bryce Canyon, Destroyer Tender, in the wood-shop and as an officer’s cook. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and camper. He was a hard worker and loved his family very much. Wherever he worked everyone “Loved Larry.” He always wore an infectious smile and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Arlin, Gilbert and Dennis.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth; son Dennis Gordin of Winchester, KY; daughter Kathy Bailey (Rick) of Marengo, IL; daughter Brenda Robinson (David) of Castle Hayne, NC; his brother Myron Gordin (Connie) of Oskaloosa; sister Diana Gordin (Tom Bates) of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery (Garden of Serenity). Visitation will be held from Noon-1:00 pm at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
