Aunt Pat was a soft landing for me and my brother growing up. Our childhood was not good so we would end up in their house when things were bad. She was always kind throughout my life and adulthood. I remember her getting on the floor to play with my kids when we visited. She told us last year when she went blind that she was ready to go. I hope she’s at peace. We’ll miss her.

The Maas family—-
I am so very sorry for the loss of dear Pat. I worked with Pat at several schools where she was always so very kind and caring to everyone. Pat taught us how to live a life of kindness, giving and caring. Hold your good memories close to your hearts. Pat is at peace with God. Many blessings to your family.

I can’t quite bring myself to call her Pat, so Mrs. Maas it is — and honestly, it feels right. Mrs. Maas was one of the greatest neighbors anyone could hope for, and after my childhood years of living down that driveway, I can say that with absolute certainty. We saw her almost as much as we saw our own mom, which probably explains why she felt like an extra parent… especially when it came to keeping us in line.
She had those perfect red raspberries we were not supposed to touch — but of course we absolutely had to. And her garden? Rhubarb, lettuce, all the forbidden snacks a kid could want. She’d stand there watching Hibby, Sweet Pea, and Margaret clothesline my brothers and sisters in a “gentle” game of Red Rover, smiling the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. Always kind. Always soft-spoken. Always one of Mom’s dearest friends.
Looking back, I realize SHE was the eyes on the back of my mother’s head… and I’m forever grateful for that. I didn’t get away with much and it helped shape who I am today. Her yard was the best cut‑through to 26th St Dr — partly because there was no fence, but mostly because she allowed it with that same warm smile. She was woven into the fabric of my childhood. A truly amazing soul.
My heart goes out to Kathy, Karen, Elizabet, Margaret, and all the grandchildren who carry her light forward. I know the heartbreak all too well, and I pray that God wraps the entire "Maas" family in His grace during this difficult time.
All my love, Jill

I also have such great memories of Mrs, Maas. She always had a smile and seemed so happy to see me and catch up.
She and Don’s friendship with my parents brought them so much joy, and their kindness and love of life helped my parents feel younger than their years.
The Gradovilles are sending warm thoughts to all of the Maas clan and celebrate lives dedicated to others.

I have the best memories of your mom, Mrs. Maas as I always called her, even when in later years she always told me to call her Pat (but I just couldn't) !! From grade school days with Margaret and playing over at your house (using the handy cut through from Memorial to Norwood we made in somebody's yard, hopefully they didn't mind!!) to later years when I'd be home visiting Mom and Dad and your mom would be walking Memorial Drive, often to go see her sister. We had some of the best talks at the corner of Memorial and 14th Avenue! She was always so kind, and always had a smile. I last saw her in 2024 at Mom's funeral, and true to form, your mom asked me if I remembered making soap in your driveway (a Camp Fire girls project that Margaret and I did, which ended up with me getting lye on my face and your mom very concerned about it!!). She was a sweetheart, and I am thankful she was in my life. I hope all the wonderful memories you have of her help with the tough times of missing her.

Grandma Pat, was not only my great-grandmother she was my Godmother. At every holiday, or spiritual milestone she was always there. She would always tell me how proud she was of me, give me a warm hug, and shower me with the best gift of all: her presence and her love. I believe the best way to carry her memory is to love endlessly. The world lost a truly beautiful soul.

Your mother was the sweetest. She always remembered me and I enjoyed visiting with her when I was back home at All Saints forMass. I would share memories of Sweet Pea from grade school through Regis and ISU. I last saw your mom and Joe at my parents' funerals where she was as kind as ever. All Saints has lost another pillar of the community. My sincere condolences to the family for your loss.

My grandma was the best grandma around. She made us grandmas spaghetti (trademarked) and we still make it to this day. She babysat us regularly and took us to apple picking where we made apple dip and peeled apples with her. One of my favorite memories of her was when we left her house to go back home and she had a special drawer for us kids which was filled with marshmallows. She let us take a bag of marshmallows home and a banana - that was the best thing in the world. We were heading home late at night but we had a snack just from grandma. I have so many more memories of grandma pat but my greatest is those marshmallows with a side of banana.
