Memorial
Robert “Bob” Zahradnik went home to Heaven peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, cherished memories, and countless lives he touched along the way.
Bob was born on September 11, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Frank and Jessie (Booth) Zahradnik. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1956 and went on to build a life centered around family, hard work, friendship, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that made life special.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barb, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage; his parents, Frank and Jessie (Booth) Zahradnik; and his brother, Jerry Zahradnik.
He leaves behind two daughters, Pam Plank of Seal Beach, California, and Jill Hartnett-Schmitt of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney Ayotte and Caelan Plank of California, and Austin, Allie, and Zach of Illinois, and his precious great-granddaughter, Charlotte of California.
Bob was a hardworking and respected member of his community. He was the co-owner of True Value Farm & Home in Marion for 20 years and later worked for Aggregates for 20 years. Through every chapter of his working life, he was known for his dependability, dedication, and genuine care for others.
But Bob’s greatest treasures were never found in a business or a job. They were found in the people he loved. His family meant everything to him. He treasured time spent with family and friends, and he had a special love for farming and the many tractor rides that brought him so much happiness. Those rides, conversations, laughs, and ordinary days together became the extraordinary memories his family will carry in their hearts forever.
Bob had a way of making people feel welcome and cared for. His kindness, humor, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
While our hearts are heavy with the loss of Bob, we find comfort knowing that his earthly journey is complete and that he has been reunited with his beloved Barb.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 3 PM with Pastor Jonathan Heifner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Camp Courageous.
