😭 This guy deliverd the my daughter! He wasn't even my doc, she was ready early for the first and last time in her life. He cracked me up the entire time. Do you know how hard it is to make someone laugh when they have been in labor for 18 hours and you are cutting a hole in their abdomen? He was amazing! And I only met him once! I am so sorry for the family's loss.

Maureen and family, I just wanted to share with you. Dr "B" was a wonderful man I worked at OG-GYN 33 years in Mammography, he treated all of us with respect and his great sense of humor always made our days so easy great memories he will be greatly missed by many.

I'm very sorry to learn of the passing of my old neighbor. My deepest sympathy to Doc's family for their loss.

Sympathies to Dr. Barker’s family and friends. I was a family medicine resident in 1993. He was always a wonderful teacher on the OB unit and was kind to every patient and staff. Rest in Peace ❤️‍🩹

I feel very blessed to have had the privilege of working with him for many years at St. Luke’s L & D. He was truly one of a kind - compassionate, considerate and always willing to help. His faith was a beautiful and unmistakable part of who he was. He touched so many lives, including mine. So many memories. May the many wonderful memories you have bring you comfort during this difficult time. With heartfelt sympathy, Nadine.

Dr. Barker was a great physician and served our community so well for many years. He was a great role model for all of us fellow physicians. He was an even better person! To his family please accept my deepest sympathy. Dr. John Wollner

I was a family medicine resident in Cedar Rapids 1998-2001 and spent a lot of time on the OB floor at St. Lukes, I have great memories of sitting at the nurses' station with Dr. Barker when I was on call. He would sit there rather than in the call room/lounge when he had a patient in labor. He would read his newspaper (and work on a crossword, I think) but he would pick up the phone if it was ringing and the nurses were busy or on the other line. He would help answer whatever questions he could. I learned a lot from him about taking care of patients but also about being respectful to the nurses during those times. He was definitely one of the good ones. Wishing peace to his family.

Dr. Barker delivered my daughter 22 years ago on 9/9 by C-section. It was around the time of the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry football game and we made a $1.00 bet...he for the Hawkeyes and me for the Cyclones. I lost, of course and I owed him the dollar. I always thought I would see him again to give him that dollar but I didn't. Now, I still owe him that dollar, but instead, will donate that dollar (plus some) to a charity of my choice in his name. Rest Easy, Dr. Barker.

A beautiful, well-written obituary for a beautiful life well-lived because of his faith in the Lord Jesus.

Bountiful blessings to Maureen and family during this season of change. Dr. Barker delivered both of our daughters. A true professional and gentle soul.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Barker. I worked with him at Mercy Labor and Delivery and he was an amazing man and amazing Doctor. The world was a better place with him in it. Treasurer the memories.
