Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen McGlashing; his daughter, Jenny Johnson and husband Brad, Tim McGlashing and wife Keegan; his grandchildren, Karis, Breck, and Maren Johnson; his sister, Patricia Core; all of Cedar Rapids; his cousin, Dr. Terry McKenna and wife Bev of St. Louis, Mo.; and his sister-in-law, Vivian Beatty of Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis F. McGlashing; and his brother-in-law, Les Core.
Gary was born on October 23, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Benjamin and Irma (Kucera) McGlashing. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Pitzen on August 8, 1970, in Stacyville, Iowa. Gary served his country honorably in the United States Army. During his career, he worked at Iowa Manufacturing, Lefebure, Mercy Medical Center, and after retirement at Intertrade. Gary was a volunteer for several years at Big Brothers Big Sisters. He enjoyed fishing and playing in softball and bowling leagues throughout the Cedar Rapids area. He also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and St. Louis Cardinals.
Memorial donations in Gary’s honor may be directed to Hospice of Mercy, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
