Helen Marie Long, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, departed from this world on June 10, 2025, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa. Born on September 18, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas, Helen graced the lives of those around her for 93 years, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love and strength.

Helen was the daughter of Lyle E. Englet and Verna M. Englet, who instilled in her the values of perseverance and caring for others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Kenneth James Long, and her daughter, Phillis and daughter in-law Connie Long.

On October 25, 1948, Helen married Kenneth Long in Springville, Iowa.

Helen dedicated over 18 years of her life to Rockwell Collins, where her work ethic and spirit shone brightly among her colleagues. She was a loyal and caring individual, known affectionately as the "meanest mom in town," a title that was given in fun by her kids and known at the bowling alley as Mama Long. Her legacy continues through her children: sons Phil Long of Robins, IA, Jerry (Brenda) Long of Walker, IA, Chris (Linda) Long of Marion, IA, and daughter Anita (Ron) Kurth, of Marion, IA. Helen was the proud loving grandmother to four grandchildren and great-grandmother to eight, who will miss her warmth, wisdom, and love.

In addition to her family, Helen was a vibrant member of her community. She was actively involved in Living Water United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 298 in Marion, IA.

Helen had many hobbies that brought her joy. She enjoyed bowling and cribbage, arts and crafts, including crochet, handmade quilts, diamond art, and making prayer shawls and Christmas ornaments. Her creativity was evident in everything she did, and her handmade gifts were cherished by family and friends alike.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all the staff at Oldorf Hospice House for their compassionate care during Helen's final days.

A celebration of Helen's life will take place on June 13, 2025. A Visitation at 10 am - 11 am in the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories and Service beginning at 11:00 AM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Friends and family are invited to join in honoring a remarkable woman whose love and spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Helen will be forever remembered for her unwavering love, her strength, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Rest in peace, dear Helen; your memory will live on in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Oldorf Hospice House, which provided comfort and support when her family needed it most.
