Andrew Richard McKinstry of Cedar Rapids passed away in his home on Monday, June 2. Andrew suffered from depression and alcoholism for much of his life. It was a battle he could not overcome.
Andrew was born September 20, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James and Colleen McKinstry. He graduated from Washington High School in 1984 and attended the University of Iowa. Andrew was an owner of Nelson Manufacturing Company where he worked in sales for several years, tirelessly promoting Nelson products at tradeshows throughout the United States. Andrew loved the outdoors. As a boy he knew every fishing hole in Indian Creek. As a young man he spent a lot of time traveling Wyoming and Montana with his dog, Kali.
Andrew is survived by his loving wife, Jenny, and his children, Patrick and Teresa, whom he adored. Additional survivors include siblings Ann (John) Fleetwood of Taos, New Mexico and Mark (Ann) McKinstry of Cedar Rapids; nieces Grace and Claire McKinstry; nephew Joe McKinstry, all from Cedar Rapids; father and mother-in-law Del and Sharon Pattison of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law Eric Pattison of Indianapolis; and beloved canine companion, Jackson. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, James and Colleen.
Andrew was a very kind man with a big heart. He had a quirky sense of humor that his family cherished. Andrew will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private family memorial service and burial will take place at Cedar Memorial on Thursday, June 12.
