I was very surprised and saddened to learn of Mr. Hender’s death. I was happy to get to know him the last few years. He was a very successful businessman and was involved in many things but was a very unassuming man. He was a nice guy with a subtle sense of humor. I was privileged to get to know him. To his family please accept my deepest sympathy.

When I was discharged from the Army in Nov 1968, I came back to MNB and was assigned to the Correspondent Banking Department. John Mangold headed the department and Eric was my mentor. Eric was a great teacher who gave me a beginning education to build on during the next 44 years in then business. On a lighter note--on a trip through western Iowa we were staying in Council Bluffs. One morning he introduced me to English Muffins. To this day, anytime I have an English Muffin, I think of Eric. May he rest in Peace. Tom Martin

To Julie and all the family
We were terribly saddened and upset to hear of Eric's sudden passing, and we send our deepest condolences.
Eric and Julie were most kind and supportive hosts for Sholpan when she spent a year studying in Cedar Rapids (1993 -1994) and became second parents for her. We were delighted to welcome you to our wedding in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2001 and always enjoyed our occasional catch ups during your global travels.
We always found Eric to be the most witty, charming and engaging company whenever we were able to meet, and we will miss him deeply.
We are so sorry to hear this news and send all our deepest sympathies and love to you all.

Eric was a good friend and all around great guy. We spent some weekend nights having a few drinks at the Tycoon with the guys. Figure I would calm him down so I introduced him to Julie and as they say the rest is history. RIP my friend.
