David C. O’Shogay Sr, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Cedar Rapids surrounded by his loving family and his little dog, Bear. Visitation, Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:00 am until the time of the 11:00 am Funeral Service at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be private.

David was born on November 23, 1946, in Hayward, WI, to Alfred and Beatrice (DeMarr) O’Shogay. He was a member of the Ojibwe tribe, Lac Courte Orielles Reservation, Hayward, WI. He spent many summers on the reservation with his family and friends. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 10 years including being overseas during the Vietnam War. He served onboard 3 ships: the USS Ogden, USS Sutter County and the USS Intrepid. He was a retired Truck-Driver of over 25 years with most of his time working for West Side Transport, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, bingo, and family gatherings. He was fond of travel and would purposely go driving on scenic routes. He loved watching westerns, wrestling and movies. He loved all animals, especially dogs, he was jokingly nicknamed, “The Dog Father.” More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whether near or far. 

David is survived by his children Amber (Heather) O’Shogay, Angela O’Shogay, David (Alicia) O’Shogay Jr; 8 grandchildren James, Austin, Jack, Jareb, Ariana, David III, Dawson and Lennon; brothers Everett (Brenda) O’Shogay, Gerald (Karen) O’Shogay, Darrell O’Shogay and sister Corrine Dwire; many nieces, nephews; and his beloved dog, Bear.

David was preceded into death by his parents Alfred and Beatrice O’Shogay; grandson Caleb O’Shogay; sisters Janice Tainter, Faith McDonnell and Cynthia Gruntorad; brothers Alfred and Alonzo O’Shogay. 

Honorary casket bearers James Carey, Austin Kucharski, Jack Siemering, Jareb O’Shogay, David O’Shogay III, and Dawson O’Shogay.
