Morton Merle Maltby, 87, of Cedar Rapids, a longtime resident of Marion, passed away Monday June 13, 2022, at Boyson Heights Senior Living Community Cedar Rapids under the care of Compassus Hospice. A visitation will be held to honor both Morton and his wife Diane on Tuesday June 21, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. A private Inurnment will be held prior to the visitation at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his daughters, Merlene (Jeff) Burry of Alma, Colorado, Monica (Brian) Cochran of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Monette (Gary) Waller of Marion, Iowa, his grandchildren, Eric Burry of Longmont, Colorado, Shanna (Spencer) Stumpf of North Liberty, Iowa and Karyn Burry of Aurora, Colorado, his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Priscilla Burry. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, 8 days prior on June 5, 2022, his parents, 2 brothers and sister. 

Morton was born September 18, 1934, in Popejoy, Iowa, the son of William and Lena (Johnson) Maltby. He married Diane Long on November 23, 1958, in Clarion, Iowa.  Morton was a Technician in the U.S. Army for 2 years, during peace time.  He then worked for Rockwell-Collins and was very involved with several of the Apollo mission radios. Morton retired after 33 years.  He enjoyed golfing, bike riding and shuffleboard. He and Diane wintered 27 of their retired years in southern Texas where he especially enjoyed playing shuffleboard with his brother-in-law, Dick Long. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Boyson Heights Senior Living and Compasses Hospice for the great care given to Morton.
