Thanks so much for sharing James’s service with us. Our family has many fond memories of living on Birchwood Drive in the 70s and 80s with you all as our neighbors like getting to check out your camper, playing Mille Bornes and drinking Mountain Dew, and the great Shanklin New Year’s parties. Our condolences to all of the family on the loss of your great patriarch. Love, John Oetken s(on behalf of Jim, Betty, Sarah, and Paul, as well)

Cheryl, My Deepest Sympathy to you and all of your family. I really enjoyed the few times I talked to your father while you and I were roommates.

Cheryl sorry to hear of your loss. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family.????

My condolences to the Shanklin family. I had the privilege of interviewing Jim and working with him on The Collins Story Apollo documentaries. He had a passion for this story and project, and was a source of great knowledge.

My sympathies to your family. I enjoyed working with Jim on the Collins history and museum.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a wonderful example to many, serving as Rainbow Dad and an Advisory Board member in Cedar Rapids. I have so many great memories and am blessed to have known him. Cheryl and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I feel so fortunate, for the past 20-years, to have Jim as such a good and caring friend. He and Leo Greco were a great pair, collecting tabs for the Shriners Transportation Fund. Jim lead by example...and what a wonderful leader and a true gentle man he was. He will be dearly missed...

It was always a pleasure to speak with Mr. Shanklin. He was full of humor, had the most interesting stories, and so much love and pride when he spoke to me of his family. A pillar of our community, he will be greatly missed. My love to his beautiful wife, children, and their families. Be strong.
