Martin L. “Marty” Steadman passed away on September 5, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family and community who loved him deeply. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence brought character, humor, strength, and warmth to the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Cedar Memorial Park Stateroom in Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral Service 11:00 am, Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
At the heart of Marty’s life was his marriage to his loving wife of 53 years, Colleen. Together, they built a life filled with family, experiences, challenges, laughter, and countless memories. Their 53 years together were a testament to a lifelong bond that remained at the center of Marty’s world.
Marty lived his life with an independent spirit and a genuine appreciation for people. He had a way of making an impression—whether through a story, a conversation, a quick joke, or simply the unmistakable personality that made him who he was. He valued family above all else and took great pride in the people he loved.
Throughout his professional life, Marty was involved in a number of endeavors and was especially proud of his work managing the Baron De Hirsch Meyer Foundation in Miami Beach, Florida.
Another memorable chapter of Marty’s life was his time as the owner and manager of DeLux Farms, which he operated for approximately 10 years. DeLux Farms was home to racehorses, and Marty took great pride in the horses, the farm, and the world of thoroughbred racing. His involvement with the farm reflected his independent nature, his love of animals, and his enjoyment of the excitement and tradition surrounding horse racing.
Outside of work, Marty enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life memorable. He loved spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, and, of course, playing poker. Those who sat across the table from Marty knew that he enjoyed the game not only for the cards, but for the camaraderie, strategy, and inevitable banter that came with it. His favorite starting hand was the 10 of hearts and Jack of hearts—10♥ J♥, a detail those who knew him will always remember with a smile.
But perhaps the greatest measure of Marty’s life was not what he accomplished or what he owned, but the relationships he built. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend. His family was at the center of his life, and the memories he created with them will endure for generations.
Marty is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Colleen; his daughter, Tara (Ron Segassie); his sons, Jason and Jeremy; his grandson, Sean; and his granddaughter, Avery.
Marty’s passing leaves an enormous hole in the lives of those closest to him. His family will miss not only the major moments shared with him, but also the ordinary ones—the conversations, the laughter, the phone calls, and simply knowing he was there.
He leaves behind a legacy carried forward through his family, his friendships, his work, and the countless memories he created throughout his life. His stories, his humor, his opinions, and the little things that made him uniquely Marty will remain with those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
