Eugene Ivan "Gene" Stoneking, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gene was born on April 3, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ivan and Ida Stoneking. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Gene dedicated 42 years of his career as a Millwright, where he was known for his strong work ethic and mechanical expertise.
Outside of work, he had a lifelong passion for automobiles. For more than 35 years, he was an avid drag racer and enjoyed restoring and working on old hot rods. He was a proud member of the Iowa Street Hot Rods.
Those left to cherish Gene's memory include his longtime companion, Peggy Hartman; his son, Chris (Tracey) Stoneking of Sioux City, Iowa; his daughter, Tamara (Robbie) Schoon of San Antonio, Texas; his brothers, Dave (Donna) Stoneking, Terry (Nancy) Stoneking, and Jim Stoneking; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his beloved cats, Tich and Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Ida Stoneking; his sister, Wanda Burrack; and his sister-in-law, Kim Stoneking.
