Memorial
Laurel R. Sills, 91 of Tipton, IA, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away of a long illness on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. A visitation will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Laurel was born on March 13, 1931, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Roy and Ellen (Peterson) Chittick. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Laurel worked at National Oats, and later at Armstrong’s Department Store in the women’s shoe department, and K’s Merchandise in the jewelry department. She married Dale Sills on November 23, 1963.
Laurel was an avid bowler throughout her life. In the early 1970s, you would find her at Lancer Lanes, and she won many local tournaments as well as some in Las Vegas. She was also an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers fan. She and Dale enjoyed camping, traveling, listening to bands, and dancing. They moved to Pharr, TX, after retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale Sills, siblings Leone Merchant, Lucille Stieger, and Lester Chittick.
