I was a student of Mr. Kohl's at Harding Middle School. He was a great teacher and made class interesting. I'm sorry to learn of his passing so far after the fact.

Mr. Kohl was one of my favorite teachers in junior high at Linn-Mar. He made science fun and his sense of humor made me laugh on a daily basis. He was a wonderful man and touched many lives.

I was a student of Mr. Kohl in junior high at Linn-Mar in the early 70s. He was one of my favorite teachers and teased me endlessly about not being able to get my lightbulb to light. We also laughed at having to chase around the lens from a cow eye when it squirted onto the floor. It doesn't surprise me that he had such an active life. My sympathies to the family. Thank you for sharing your husband/father/grandfather/great grandfather with so many students.

Mr Kohl was one of four teachers we had in Junior High at Jesup Community School. In 8th grade, I was in his 'home room'. He put 6 or 7 of us in charge of decorating the room for each season. What fun we had that year! His enthusiasm for science was engaging, he was so kind, and his smile never forgotten. Then to find out only this week that my daughter, Jennifer Gericke, works with his wife, seemed incredible. I'm sorry I didn't know sooner. I would have liked to meet 'our' Mr Kohl again. My prayers and sympathy to all of the Kohl family.

My thoughts to the Kohl family. I was a student of Mr. Kohl at Linn-mar Jr. High. I am also currently a middle school science teacher in the Cedar Rapids School district. I always think of Mr. Kohl while I teach Force and Motion. I even use some of the tactics and videos clips he used. The memories of making a wind machine to move a mass, model rockets (built not from a kit but by hand,) or the time he gave his ice cream, another class brought to him, to my friend and I. We ate as he smiled at the objections launched by my classmates. All fond memories of the single year in his class which has influenced me and my teaching. Thoughts to the Kohl family.

My sincere sympathy--thoughts and prayers---Jo Ann and all the family. Remembering our times at Our Saviors.

My sympathies to the Kohl family. I was one of Mr. Kohl's students in Jesup from 58 to 60. I can see from his picture he didn't change much over the years. Mr. Kohl helped me expand my love of science. Something I will always appreciate.

My deepest sympathy to Jon's family. I worked with Jon for many years at the LM Junior High school. As a young teacher he helped me break into the profession. He was a genius of inventive imagination and built many science devices to help students understand science. I was lucky to know and work with him. My best moments were talking with him after school each day about how we could make experiments better for the students. There was nothing he could not figure out and build to support student learning. He was one of a kind.

I extend my sympathy to the Kohl family in the passing of Jon. I have many fond memories of Jon. We coached football, wrestling and taught science together at LMJH for many years always having a good time with our athletes & students. Jon and I enjoyed the great outdoors spending time together at Matsell Park. I consider him a good friend and colleague. He will be truly be missed.

Jo Ann and Tod, and rest of the family, Yes, our sympathy goes out to all of you at the passing of this former neighbor and science teacher. Such an outstanding fellow! Bruce, Shirley, Scot and Mark

Wow. What a beautiful biography of a great family man. Having been close friends with Jon's son, Tod, in school, I now understand where Tod got his physical strength and loving personality. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kohl family. You were blessed to have this man in your life. Cyber hugs!

What a beautiful written tribute to Jon's life. My thoughts and love are with Jo and the family.
