Todd hired me to do part-time reporting at KCJJ when I was a UI student trying to get experience in different media. He knew I had no radio knowledge and helped me start from scratch. Always made me feel welcome there — even invited me to join the station softball team! And yes, a big fan of the Indy 500. RIP, Todd.

I just learned of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Ruth. I loved Todd as though he was an older brother. In fact, I often wished he were my older brother.
I first met Todd when a friend and coworker of mine referred me to Mystery Cat Books. I was looking for books to read as I was getting back into reading and was told he had everything in his bookstore. That was spot on. He did.
The first time I walked in there, He and his fur babies all said hello and were so welcoming. He asked me how he could help me and I explained what I was looking for. He actually took the time to get to know me (A total stranger) and what my likes were not just with reading but in general and when I mentioned that I was just getting back into reading and that I just read a book called Unveiling Claudia (A great true story that he was very familiar with) and that I was wondering if we had any local authors and next thing I knew, I'm reading Ed Gorman, Max Allen Collins, Barbara Allen, Carol Gorman and even Donald Harstad and others. He was very intuitive and knowledgeable.
Every time I would go in there which was every week, multiple times, he remembered me and greeted me with " Well Hello Mr. Meyer" and I would say well hello Mr. Meyer back as well. He always had some titles ready for me to check out and always gave me a good deal and a warm welcome.
Because of him I got to meet Ed and Carol Gorman and Max and Barbara Collins and most importantly because of Todd, I found a new passion in life. Reading. to this day and for the rest of my life when I go to read any book even more now, I will think of him and you both. Yes, I remember meeting you too. I was most definitely taken in by how pretty you were.
Ruth, you and Todd will always be in my memories and will never be forgotten.
Thank you both for making me a better person.

I'm grateful for the times I got to meet Todd. He was sure a fun man with a huge personality and the best sense of humor! The "Todd Meyer" humor will be legendary!
Sending you so much love, Ruth.
Todd could not have had a better, more devoted and loving caregiver.

Ruth, I'm in Florida right now. Lisa called and told me the news about the passing of Todd. Our hearts are broken. As you know there are so many memories we shared with Todd (and you). We were honored to have been friends with you two for so long. From our wedding day, limo rides to dinner, the Gary & Todd Show on the radio! My Goodness, I could go on for hours how much he made us laugh. Lisa and I will miss him so much. As I think back, where did the time go... Ruth we wish you well, and strength through this time and if you need us, we are just a phone call away. (I am having a hard time with this news...)

I listened to Todd every morning when I was in law school at Iowa in the earl 1980s. He was a morning DJ.
In the fall of 1983 I met Todd at a Wisconsin football game in Madison when a few friends and I checked into the hotel room he and an Iowa City friend, who was also a friend of mine, had booked for the night. When they discovered what we had done, they were kind enough to let me sleep on the floor when the bars closed and give me a ride back to CR the next day. That turned out to be a great introduction for me.
The next spring, my Iowa City friend let me know Todd and Dan were opening a bar in the former Web. I and a couple softball buddies were among the very first customers that first week. That started a long friendship for the three of us with Todd, centered on the ID. Our softball and volleyball teams were soon sponsored by the ID and it quickly became a regular gathering place for our friends.
Todd was always quick with a joke or a wise crack and knew everyone’s name. Todd had great sense of humor and always left folks laughing. One time when I brought some work colleagues in for lunch, he served me a sandwich with a bite taken out of it - leading to much teasing and ridicule of me - that was Todd!.
I did not know he had been ill. We have lost a great man, but his memory will always keep me smiling - if not laughing out loud! I’m lucky to have known him and call him a friend.
I’m sorry for your loss Ruth. ☘️❤️

I am so very sorry to hear of Todd’s passing. He was one of my favorite people to work with during Friends of Library book sales. He kept me laughing during some frustrating moments. Always tuned into his morning DJ show when we moved to CR. Hopefully memories of the good times can help ease the sorrow.

What a shock to hear this sad news. I'm one of many who are definitely mourning this loss, yet also celebrating the life Todd lived and the laughs and good times he gave us all. Wonderful memories. Todd always made everyone feel welcome when they entered the ID, leaving many of us feeling we were almost "at home" when we were there. (Sam Malone from "Cheers" had nothing on Todd Meyer!) Cheers to a good man and his life well lived!
My heartfelt condolences to you Ruth.
RIP Todd. Sincerely, Gary Shea

The world would be a better place if we had more people like Todd. Smart, funny and just a joy to be around. Our road-trips to Red Wing for the WMT golf reunions will always be pleasant memories. I’ll miss him. Positive thoughts for you, Ruth.

What do say about one of the nicest, funniest & most personable guys you've ever met? I remember when I first moved back to CR in 1985, I was taken to the "best bar in town" according to my friends. They were not wrong. We were greeted by Todd before the door had even shut. He came over & inquired about the newcomer (me). He made me feel so welcome. He truly cared about his customers & wanted to get to know them on a deeper level. He had the perfect voice for radio & I always enjoyed listening when he was on. When he opened the book store in back of the ID, I was a frequent visitor, not just to see Todd, but to visit with his kitties. His love for Ruth was immense & on display whenever her name was mentioned. He grinned from ear to ear speaking of her. When he left the ID it never felt the same going there.
Ruth, Roger and I are so deeply sorry for your loss. He was such a special man and will be missed by all who knew him.

So sorry to read of Todd’s passing. I have fond memories of working with him in my early days in radio at KKRQ in Iowa City where he did the morning show with Mark Vos and was part of famed Rock Lobsters softball team. It was an honor knowing him.
