Memorial
Edgar Lee Hyke, 65, a quiet soul with a deep love for the outdoors and a heart rooted in family, passed away at home on June 13, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on August 8, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he spent most of his life. He was a man content with simple pleasures, who found peace in the woods, joy in a good fishing spot, and pride in the children he raised.
Born to Lyle Joy and Charity Anne Hyke (née Hepker), Edgar was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children— Brenda Lee Hyke, Jonathan Kenneth Hyke (Amanda), and Alexandra Joy Hyke—who were the light of his life—and by his grandchildren, Tegan Grey and Ellis Roux Hyke. He is also survived by his siblings Charlene Anne, Lyle Richard, and Dallas Dean.
Edgar earned his Eagle Scout at a young age and remained an avid outdoorsman all his life He loved hunting for morels in spring, casting lines for catfish with a cold beer in hand, and swimming in any water he could find. Edgar took great pleasure in telling and experiencing a good story and always tried to bring others the joy of laughter. He attended school toward a wastewater treatment certification and took pride in that work, often reflecting on the importance of caring for both people and the environment.
More than anything, Edgar was a man in tune with nature. He believed in its quiet magic, and he did his best to pass that wonder on to his children. His presence was steady, his love was deep, and his memory will live on in the woods, waters, and wild places he cherished.
A private family memorial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, take a walk in the woods or skip a stone across the water in his memory. Forever and Always.
