Janice (Jan) Kay Bressler (Thomas) of Independence, IA passed away August 17, 2025. A private family burial was held.
Jan was born the daughter of Delores R. (Brecht) Thomas and Owen Gary Thomas on September 10, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, IA.
She is survived by her loving husband Gregory Bressler and her five children. Linda (Steve) Hamilton of Anamosa, Joy (Don) Neve of Vinton, Julie (Mark) Miller of Independence, Todd (Laura DQ) Henderson of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Colleen) Henderson of Shawnee, Kansas. Jan is also survived by her step-daughter Shanna (Mike) Smith of Sommerville, SC.
Jan graduated from Jefferson High School class of 1960. Her working life was spent in Retail Foods Store Management and several years of successful restaurant ownership. Jan proudly raised her five wonderful children. She loved to cook and entertain her growing family that included 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Eleven years of “Grandma Jan Day Care” at the end of her working years added so much joy and love to Jan and Greg’s life. Gramma and Papa will always cherish their Daycare families and children.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jim and Brett Thomas and her nephew Vincent Thomas. Also preceding her in death were some very special Aunts and Uncles, including her dear Aunt Elva and Uncle Nyle Boyse.
Special thanks to Dr. Kurt House and the wonderful staff at Buchanan County Health Center. Also special thanks to Dr Jenigiri and wonderful staff at PCI of Cedar Rapids, including her wonderful Angel Nurses Allison and Nicole.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday September 13th from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Denali’s On The River 1749 Golf Course Blvd Independence, IA.
