I am deeply saddened by Steve’s passing.
Steve and I worked together many years as actuaries at Transamerica/AEGON. I also was fortunate to work with him as a fellow SHIIP counselor at the Mercy Hospital office. We shared many good times at lunch and coffee. I was very blessed to have known Steve. He was extremely intelligent & I learned a lot from him. His great sense of humor , kindness , and friendship will always be treasures for me. I will miss him greatly. Blessings always to Mary and their entire family.

I was sorry to hear about Steve's passing last night. I recently texted him with regards to his mother's passing. I didn't know about the cancer situation. I grew up with Steve and lived about a block away from him and hung out with him on a daily basis. After college, we would periodically stay in touch, but regret not talking to him more. Steve was one of the smartest guys I have ever known and a really nice person . I will miss him. Prayers to his family and friends. Brian Buckmeier

Oh, this is just the saddest news. Steve and I were classmates and best friends in Mobridge before I moved away in 1970. We pushed each other to be the smartest in our class(I wish I still had my old Big Chief tablet where we wrote to 1000, just because...).
I will always regret not staying in touch, or contacting him when I got back to Iowa to visit my family.
rest easy, my friend.
