Sandra was a RN who compassionately cared for our Sisters of Mercy at Sacred Heart Convent. In addition, she was a Mercy Associate, serving several years in leadership for the Cedar Rapids Mercy Associates. We are sad for ourselves, but happy for the angels in Heaven who now have a new Angel among them.

Condolences to Sandy's family. I knew her when she was working at the DeGowin Blood Center. She was a quiet, dedicated woman and easy to work with. So kind and friendly. She will be missed my many.

Bob and I are so saddened by the passing of Sandra. We have many fond memories of her. We had good talks and laughs on our trips out to Colorado before she moved out there. We both were in the Prayer Shawl ministry at St. Joseph's and Sandra did beautiful work. She was so happy to move out to Colorado and we were looking forward to visiting with her on our next trip out there. I read something recently that I would like to share. "Death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our minds hold the memories. Our hearts keep the love. Our faith lets us know we will meet again." She will be missed but always in our hearts.

I worked with Sandy for many years at the DeGowin Blood Center. She was the nicest person and had a quiet, gentle personality. She and I would end up laughing so hard many times over some of the silliest things, but she was a good friend and easy to talk with. I tried to keep in touch with her via email when she moved to Colorado. She will be missed.

Bob, I am so sorry to hear of your sisters passing. I remember that you had a younger sister but I really didn’t know her. She sounds like a wonderful sister. I’m sure she will be missed. You have my sincere sympathy.

Pat and I have been connected with the Shay family when our parents were friends and when we were attending Regis High. Our prayers are with you.-Pat and Sandy Murphy

It is with sad hearts that we read of Sandy's passing. Our friendship goes back to being next door neighbors in the dorm at Mercy School of Nursing. Caring for Sandy and her newborn babies, visiting back and forth in each other's homes and sharing life situations was part of our lives. She had great stories of her adventures in the West. May she rest in peace. Our sympathy to you all. Jim and Bonnie Thomas
