Douglas E. Mackert, age 70, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at home.
Doug was born on December 14, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Eldon Clarence Mackert and Bethel Nadine (Floerchinger) Mackert. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1972, after which he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the USAF beginning in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1975. He married Judy Marie Sigwarth and became stepfather to Troy A. Sigwarth on May 14, 1988. Doug and Judy welcomed their daughter, Morgan Marie Mackert, on May 18, 1991. Doug was a proud member of the IBEW Local 405 and worked for Munson Electric at Rockwell-Collins until his retirement.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue ("Doc") Docter, and survived by his son, Troy (Kim) Sigwarth; daughter, Morgan Mackert; stepmother, Gerre Walder; sisters, Jane (Rye) Clark, Linda (Eddie) Mercado, and Ann (Jon) Bell; grandchildren, Drew Michael and Claire Marie; and many more friends and family members.
Doug was a hard worker, an incredible father, and the biggest goof. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play football and talking with his family. He is so very missed.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A celebration of his life will follow at 11:00 am.
