Mark Phillips, 66 of Marion, Iowa passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 3, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 8, 2022, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of Mark’s life in Decorah at a later date.
Mark was born on January 16, 1956, in Decorah, Iowa the son of Marcelline & Loretta (Anderson) Phillips. He attended grade school at St. Benedicts and graduated from Decorah High School. Mark went on to achieve a welding degree. Mark was employed at FMC Cedar Rapids as a welder and inspector, then Jennerjohn Well drilling in Decorah, and finished his career with Linn County Secondary Roads & Bridge crew until retirement. A real outdoors man. Mark loved fishing, gardening, and spending time on the farm. He was very mechanically inclined and could fix anything. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Mark’s memory are his three siblings, Peter (Karen) Phillips, Patricia (Fred) Axmear, Marcia (Lance)Radeke; a brother-in-law, Mark Opat; and special friend, Barbara Bright; and loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Opat; and a brother-in-law, David Bucheit.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
