Donald Edward Zvacek, 89, passed away on Aug 2, 2022, following a long illness.  

Don was born on a farm near Ely on Dec 5, 1932 to Bessie and Edward Zvacek. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1951. Don married Betty Lou Lala in 1952 and the marriage produced 3 children Dennis, Susan, and Kevin, later ending in divorce. In Oct 1988 Don married Karen Pope.  Don was an US Army Veteran, where he served in Nova Scotia and Greenland during the Korean War.  As a 31-year employee of Iowa Electric, he worked his way from the power plant to the dispatch center.  After his retirement in 1991, he spent 7 years delivering groceries for Hy-Vee, and 24 years fulfilling a lifelong dream of following the University of Iowa girls basketball team while working security at all of the U of I athletic events. Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, Friday night races at Hawkeye Downs, bluegrass festivals, the crab legs on the buffet at Riverside Casino, fireworks, and most of all just spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law.  Don leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Karen of Cedar Rapids and brother Robert (Marilyn- deceased) of Cedar Rapids. Don's three children: Dennis (Donalyn) of Tulsa, OK, Susan (Tony Miller) of Castle Rock, CO, and Kevin (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves behind stepchildren: Brenda (Keith) Differding of Marion, Dennis Pope of Chicago, and Bonnie Sicotte of Cedar Rapids. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Amy Zvacek, Tulsa, OK; Don (Lindsey) Zvacek and children Reed, Noelle, and Josephine, Madisonville, LA; Jeri and Leslie Miller, Golden, CO; Stacey (Kirk) McGahey, Littleton, CO; Sara Marie Differding, Cedar Rapids; Ryan (Sarah) Differding and children Cash, Zona, and Hazel, Cedar Rapids; Jessica Sicotte and children Kendall and Connor Daniel, Cedar Rapids; Andrea (Taylor) Henkes and children Carter and Keaton Estrada, Center Point; and Aaron Sicotte, Cedar Rapids. Nephew Bret (Mindy) Zvacek, and neice Alyson (Todd) Eadie.

A Celebration of Life for Don is planned for a later date.
