We worked with Jim for many years when he was in the auditor's office and he would help us with real estate matters. We always enjoyed his stories and jokes. We were very sorry to hear of his passing. Our sincere sympathy to Jim's family.

Sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. My memories go back to later 60’s CR Gazette. In addition to my paper route, I worked for Jim in the circulation department as kind of a troubleshooter in the Wellington heights/McKinley area. I was 14 ,& it was my first real outside job . Jim was a great boss, friend,& advisor who taught me a lot about problem solving. Always treated us like adults ,inspiring us to live up to his trust. Thanks for being there Jim.You made a difference!

Sorry for your loss. Jim was a friend from my first week with Linn County in 1974. We shared many good times at Old Town Inn and Polly's Penthouse back in the 70's. He was a good person to share time with.

To Sue and the rest of the Morgan family,
I'm honored that my life crossed paths with Jim's during the time he served in the AmeriCorps program. He had a big heart for his family and for service to make his corner of the world a better place; I valued his quick smile and lively sense of humor- you need that to work in government programs! Go Hawks! Love, hugs and prayers from my family to yours.

Dear Dad,
Hidden behind your crusty exterior was a genuinely warm, tender heart unafraid to offer a hug, peck on the forehead, or say, “It’ll be OK, punkin”. We’ll forever cherish the many times you took us to fly kites or watch airplanes take off and land at the airport, occasionally pulling over spontaneously on the way there or back to roll down the window and use your deep voice to call cows over to the car for our entertainment. There were softball games at Ellis Park and Welty Way, trips to Dairy Queen, swings and slides at the park, and random drives around town to see Christmas lights which will never be forgotten. Your father Jay loved to fish, and though that wasn’t your thing you made it a point to share it with me and teach me how. We often played catch with your old football, and you had to throw underhanded because your shoulder and elbow were shot.
Upon returning from every business trip you’d always bring Dana and I some corny little souvenir, only to make us sit on the couch patiently with our eyes closed until we were ready to burst - teasing us not to peek before finally handing them over. Thank you for everything you did for us.
At times your judgement wasn’t always sound: taking us to see R-Rated movies like Jaws, which left me so frightened I refused to return to swimming lessons for a couple weeks, or The Bad News Bears and Smokey and The Bandit, which opened a whole new world of colorful language to us kids (which you later supplemented with profane phrases in Czech), and contributing to our juvenile delinquency with annual runs to Missouri for a bag of fireworks are just a few examples. You were a one-of-kind character whose smile and sense of humor were simply unparalleled.
My first legal St Patrick’s Day with you at Ted’s Happy Time and Pete ‘N Tillie’s (and many subsequent ones about town) were an absolute hoot, as was watching Iowa football together at the Log Cabin and City Beat. Monthly childhood haircuts at Executive Barber Shop are probably what I miss most. Without fail you’d send me out into the hallway so you could trade the latest dirty jokes with Bill and Greg, not realizing I was lurking by the door and listening. At that age I didn’t understand most of them but tried sharing with friends and classmates nonetheless. The barber shop was truly our happy place.
You’re in a much better place now surrounded by family and friends/partners in crime. My dog Otis absolutely adored you, and I suspect he was one of the first to welcome you – with a tennis ball in his mouth. You weren’t always the perfect father, but I’m SO very lucky you were my dad. This world will feel a little less warm and a hell of a lot less funny without you in it. We are each devastated at losing you, but are incredibly proud of the fight you put up. There is simply no way for me to articulate how much I love and miss you.
Until we’re together again,
Danny

Our sincere sympathies during this time of loss. From activities with Connor and Cory - a "few" years ago or calls to Jerry for plumbing help, Jim always had that huge smile. Our thoughts are with you all.

Sue and family, I was so saddened to see that Jim had passed. We worked together in the Auditor’s office for many years...no one knew real estate like Jim. And he was one of the funniest people I ever met. His stories were legendary. My deepest sympathy to you, Sue, and to Jim’s kids.
