David,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of both of your parents earlier this year. I had no idea until I Googled them for their address on G Avenue a few minutes ago. I am going to be in Cedar Rapids the week before Thanksgiving and was very much looking forward to seeing both of them again.
Your parents were always so nice to me. They would write notes to me every now and then via emails or cards just to keep in touch, which was something I very much appreciated. My parents greatly valued their friendship.
What a wonderful couple! They shall be missed.
Karl
P.S. I lost both of my parents in 2011 and brother Paul in 2008.

Jeff,
So sorry to hear about your mother's passing. Though I didn't know her real well, she (and your dad) seemed like really nice people. The kind you would love to have as your neighbors.
When I read her obituary it got me to thinking how long it's been since New York. A lot of water has ran over that dam since then. Hard to beleave.
Best wishes to you, Laurie, and the rest of your family.

To all of the Nelson family,
I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Barb's passing. She was such a kind and lovely woman. I'll never forget how sweet she was to me as a child visiting her home, taking so much care to make sure that I was happy. My condolences.

John, Myra and the rest of the Nelson Family:
I was so saddened to hear of your mother's recent passing. She was one of the kindest, most genuine "moms" you could ask for ... Whenever we visited, we were always guaranteed great conversation, not to mention heartfelt hugs and delicious cookies. Cherish your memories and know how very proud she was of all of you.
Love,
Mary Boone

LAURA AND JEFF: I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR MOTHER, AND YOUR FATHER. I REMEMBER YOUR DAD WORKED AT PARAMOUNT PHARMACY, JEFF. I LOVED GOING IN THERE TO BUY A WHOLE SACK OF GREAT CANDY FOR 50 CENTS. THERE'S NOT MANY OF US WHO CAN SAY WE WENT ALL THROUGH SCHOOL TOGETHER--KINDERGARTEN THRU TWELFTH, AND THEN WE BOTH WORKED AT ARMSTRONG'S DEPT. STORE WHILE IN COLLEGE. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOUR FAMILY AT THIS TIME. CHERISH YOUR WONDERFUL MEMORIES. WE LOST MY FATHER ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2014 AND OUR GREAT MEMORIES ARE SUSTAINING US.

David, Jeff, and John,
Hearing of your mother's passing (especially so soon after your father's death) made me very sad; please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. My parents (Frank and Marjorie Brown) lived across the street from your parents for at least 20 years. I can remember referring to the Nelsons as "the young couple across the street" in the midst of several much older neighbors (such as the Stoddards and the Amadors). Both Barb and Bill were loving, generous neighbors who were always there to help someone in need and to share a story and a laugh together. They even used to play neighborly tricks on each other by sneaking large plastic animals onto each's others' lawns at night -- most commonly, reindeer. This became a symbol of their friendship that lasted long after my parents moved from G. Avenue. We were all blessed by their presence in our lives.

We will sorely miss your Mom & Dad on our next trip to CR this summer as they were always on the top of our list to visit when we were in town! In the 18 yrs we were neighbors, you couldn't find any better people to live near! Obviously, the good Lord has a special place for wonderful people such as your Mom & Dad! They have left us with many memories in which we can all cherish! MAY GOD bless them and their family in this time of sorrow, but rejoice knowing they have eternal life thereafter!

To cousins David, Jeff, and John Nelson, and families:
I am so very saddened by your loss. Aunt Barb was a remarkably caring and giving person; she will be missed by all who knew her. I will always remember her kindness and generosity, her easy laugh, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome.

So sorry for your loss Nelson family. Mrs. Nelson always gave me a hard time when I said "hello Mrs. Nelson." She would say, "call me Barb," to which I replied, "yes Mrs. Nelson." Mrs. Nelson was always giving me fresh tomatoes from her garden. And even went out of her way to look out for my home as well. Both Barb and Bill will be dearly missed.

Sending our sympathy to the Nelson family. Barb will always be remembered as the "caring" G Avenue neighbor who looked out for the elderly and the ill; Mrs. Stoddard, Oscar's, the Brown's, your grandmother, Marilyn, and your father. Then when her health declined she was too proud to accept any help that could have been given to her. She was small in size but very strong-willed.

I am so sorry for loss. Barb was a wonderful neighbor and friend. When I moved to the neighborhood 16 years ago she came over with a bouquet of peonies. I knew then that I was in a great neighborhood. She always shared the produce from her garden with the neighbors. There was always a glass of ice water waiting for me after mowing the yard. And the many treats she sent home with me after mowing or clearing the snow. She was a great friend and I will miss seeing her and talking with her on the phone.
