The Many Options that Come with Cremation

When considering
cremation, some used to believe that they could not have a funeral service, or if they did, it wouldn’t be as meaningful as it might be with traditional burial. When you choose Cedar Memorial, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’ve proudly been a part of the Cedar Rapids community for almost 90 years, helping families pay tribute and memorialize their loved ones in unique and meaningful ways. When families come to Cedar Memorial, they now discover that cremation is, indeed dignified and honorable.

As traditions change, we develop new and meaningful ways to honor and commemorate our loved ones.  Our attitudes toward what is “appropriate” during a funeral become much broader, and that means we can offer families new choices and new forms of tribute and remembrance. We find that families may also need help sparking creative ideas. Our expert team can help.

In the past, some people also viewed cremation only as a way to save money on funeral costs. But now, families who do choose cremation are discovering that dignified and touching services are available to help them honor and commemorate their loved one. When you choose cremation, you can still have a visitation, memorial service, traditional funeral service, graveside observance, and many other comforting and healing rituals. And you can personalize cremation services with vaults, caskets, and urns that bear emblems and engravings denoting religious affiliation, hobbies and special interests, and military or civic service.

You can trust that we accept nothing less than excellence at Cedar Memorial. We own and operate our own state-of-the-art crematory, Cedar Cremation Center, that rises to the level of our high standards of ethics, performance, and professionalism. All aspects of the cremation process are handled by Licensed Funeral Directors which assures that the dignity of the person who has died remains our paramount consideration while cremation takes place.

When you choose cremation, ask these important questions:

1.) What kind of memorial services are available? At Cedar Memorial, the cremation process can take place before or after a memorial service, and we offer many cremation memorialization options at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

2.) What are the choices for personalization and telling the story of the life that has been lived? Our Cedar Memorial Signature Service Plans can help guide your choices to making a personalized and meaningful cremation service. The Family Center and Library serves as a comforting environment for funeral receptions, which can be a nice way to share memorable stories over favorite food

3.) Most importantly, what measures does the funeral home take to maintain identity and guard the dignity of the process? Our exclusive Cedar Tracking process and software are a proprietary set of procedures that are used and strictly adhered to in order to securely safeguard each loved one’s identity.  All cremation procedures are completed by Iowa Licensed Funeral Directors, many whom have completed the Crematory Operations Certification program from the Cremation Association of North America (CANA).  CANA's Crematory Operations Certification program, which is considered "The Gold Standard in Crematory Operations Training". This training is a mark of distinction that increases a Funeral Director's knowledge of crematory operations best practices, and reflects Cedar Memorial’s proactive commitment to dignified, respectful, and caring service.

Cedar Memorial is, and will remain, the most trusted funeral home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. And when it comes to cremation, that’s the best assurance of all.
