Marjorie Lee Walter, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Marion, Iowa, following a brief illness.

In accordance with Marjorie and Clarence’s wishes, a private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Marjorie’s honor. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Marjorie was born on February 16, 1935, in Worthington, Iowa, to Lawrence and Theresa Schemmel. In 1955, she graduated from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She married Clarence Walter, Jr., in 1961, and together they built a life centered around their three children, their faith and community, and their shared love of baseball. Marjorie cherished her years at home raising her children and later worked at Merchant’s Bank in Cedar Rapids, where she remained until her retirement in 1996.

Marjorie filled her days with a variety of activities, including golf, gardening, and especially music. She sang with the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church choir and played guitar with several folk groups during Mass. Marjorie and Clarence attended many Major League Baseball games together and enjoyed traveling to a variety of stadiums throughout the Midwest and along the East Coast.

Marjorie is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Clarence “Junie”; her three children, Nanette Yurcik, Nancy Hrubes, and Edward (Katie) Walter; her seven grandchildren, Kelsey (Blake) Skaja, Cole Hrubes, William “Billy” Yurcik, Matthew Yurcik, and Claire, Nicholas, and Joshua Walter; and her sister, Lois Boffeli.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jane Kurt.

Marjorie’s greatest source of love and joy was her family and grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and role model who will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
