Memorial
Steven Craig Whitford, 66, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, on Mother’s Day. He was born on June 11, 1959, in West Union, Iowa.
Steve graduated from Kennedy High School in 1977 and went on to earn several certifications as a machinist and welder. He dedicated the last 20 years of his career to CCB Contract and Packaging, where he was known for his hard work, reliability, and quiet dedication.
Steve’s greatest passions were animals, hunting, and living life in its simplest form. Some of his favorite places were Pleasant Creek and Chain Lake, where he spent countless hours thoughtfully clearing brush and maintaining paths for wildlife to thrive. He found peace in nature and took pride in caring for the land around him.
Steve deeply loved his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his parents. He remained at his parents’ home throughout his life, surrounded by love, comfort, and familiarity until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Whitford, who adored him and lovingly “called him home” with her on Mother’s Day, and by his brother, Scott Whitford of Arizona.
Steve is survived by his father, Donald Whitford of Robins, Iowa; his brother, David W. Whitford of Marion, Iowa; and his sister, Colleen Wirth of Colorado. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family members who hold countless fond memories of him close to their hearts.
Steve will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, love of the outdoors, and the simple life he valued so deeply.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve’s life and what would have been his 67th birthday from 11:00 am to 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Old Stone Schoolhouse, 12077 Bell Road, Volga, Iowa. Lunch will be served.
