Memorial
Jeanne Marie Pinckney, 101, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the Promise House Assisted Living Center in Hiawatha, Iowa.
A visitation celebrating Jeanne’s life will be held from 10-11 am, Wednesday, April 8th at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A memorial service will follow with Jordan Pinckney officiating. Jeanne will then be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Wally. After the burial, a light lunch will be provided at the Cedar Memorial Family Center.
Survivors include her children Bill (Dionne) Pinckney, John Pinckney (Susan Leffler), and Anne Althoff (Gary); her grandchildren, Kara (Eddie) Ellis, Blake (Naomi) Pinckney, Jordan (Aubree) Pinckney, Adam (Sydney) Pinckney, Mariah (Andy) Malcolm, Elliott Althoff, and Jason Duplaga. Jeanne was also blessed with 11 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Jeanne was born in Ames, Iowa and moved to Cedar Rapids during the Depression. After graduating from Franklin High School, she attended Coe College where she would meet her future husband, Wally. She was named Homecoming Queen in 1945. After graduating from Coe, she went on to study Lab Technology at Northwestern University. Jeanne and Wally married in 1949. After raising their children, she received her teaching certification and a Master of Library Science at the University of Iowa. Jeanne belonged to numerous organizations that include Chi Omega Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO, CRIRSP, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also worked part-time for Cedar Rapids Public Golf Courses and volunteered at local schools.
The family wants to express their utmost gratitude to the incredible staff at Promise House and Suncrest Hospice for the extraordinary care they provided Jeanne with.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jeanne's name may be directed to Promise House Assisted Living or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
