Memorial

Gerald Lee Batey, 74, passed away on March 5, 2026, at Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Gerald was born on August 13, 1951, in Cedar Rapids to Maxine (Dutton) and Mervin Batey.  Gerald graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1969 and proudly served two years in the Navy.  He enjoyed anything Hawkeye, watching movies and Star Wars.  He loved eating out, especially at Ocean City in Marshalltown.  

He is survived by his brother Lester Batey, stepsisters, Erika (Jay) Miller of Mount Vernon, Marlene Jeffery, Doris (Dewane) Hughes, cousins, Bonnie Jones and Mary Von Voltenburg, all of Cedar Rapids, and John McDonogh of Florida.

The family would like to thank the Iowa Veteran’s Home for the care he received for 17 years.  He always said “For some reason, I think they like me here!”  And they proved that they DID care!!  Also, thanks to the Hospice people who helped the last weeks of his life.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
