Memorial
Sharon Kay Stotler Hruska, 82, of Peachtree City, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, of natural causes. Born on May 24, 1944, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Vernon and Margaret Stotler, Sharon lived a life defined by generosity, devotion to family, and an unwavering commitment to the communities she called home.
Sharon spent many of her most formative years in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, area, where she built a life rich with purpose and connection. For over fifteen years, she served as the Assistant Manager of the Coe College Bookstore, where her sharp wit and warm nature made her a beloved figure among students and colleagues alike. She had a dry sense of humor that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing long after the conversation ended, and she carried herself with the kind of quiet confidence that made everyone around her feel welcome.
Those who knew Sharon well knew that she was a mother to everyone, not just in title but in spirit. She was always the first person to offer help to anybody who needed it, whether that meant a kind word, a warm meal, or rolling up her sleeves and getting to work. This mothering instinct found one of its greatest expressions in Scouting. Over the course of more than fifteen years, Sharon served in numerous leadership roles with Cub Scouts Pack 33, Scout Troop 24, and the Hawkeye Area Council Scouts of America. She never met an Eagle Scout she wasn't proud of helping create, and her influence shaped countless young lives along the way.
Sharon was also a passionate historian, particularly when it came to her own family's roots. She served as a genealogist for the Linn County Historical Society for over twenty years and was actively involved with the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library. She deeply cared about the history of her family and thoroughly loved telling anybody who asked about it, in wonderful and vivid detail.
Beyond her many contributions to community life, Sharon knew how to enjoy herself. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society in both Missouri and Georgia, where she found friendship and laughter in abundance. At home, she was an avid fan of NCIS and old western movies. Every Sunday, she looked forward to watching the NASCAR race, cheering loudly for her favorite driver while letting the ones she didn't care for hear about it too.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theodore James Hruska; her son, David Joseph Hruska; her parents, Vernon and Margaret Stotler; and her brother, Larry Stotler. She will be lovingly remembered by her son James Hruska, Jacqueline Hruska and her two granddaughters Jayden Elizabeth and Jocelyn Marie Hruska, in GA.
Though Sharon's earthly journey has come to an end, those who loved her find comfort in the promise of eternal life through faith in Christ. She lived with a servant's heart, and her legacy of kindness, laughter, and devotion will continue to bless all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in the peace and grace of the Lord she served so faithfully.
A private graveside service will be held by the family at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
